Its not even October yet, and I have already gotten a cold. A very minor one, but still. Even those of us who consider themselves to be very healthy are at susceptible to cold season. But, there are things we can do to prevent illness from taking root, and warding it off once we start to see the symptoms.
If you are like me, you have no interest in getting a flu shot. I will always be honest and straight forward with you guys, and in my own opinion, getting a flu shot is like playing Russian roulette with a syringe. Its typically a 50/50 chance that you will either be fine, or get horribly sick.
A Natural Endeavor is very committed to Preventative Medicine. What that means is medicine that you take when you are healthy. When you show no symptoms of being ill, to continually keep you well.
That being said, lets get to the good stuff!

Tea’s for optimal wellness
Let’s start this off with one of my favorite treats, tea. Tea has been around for centuries, and there are a few that have amazing properties for overall wellness.
Green tea has been around for centuries, and is probably one of the most used teas around the world. It is rich in antioxidants, which help to keep the immune system running correctly. Using matcha green tea can help boost your immune health even more than regularly brewed green tea. The reason for this is that match is made using the whole leaf in a powder rather than boiling the leaves.
This tea is rich in vitamins a, b and e, and can help activate the process of t-cell renewal. Echinacea is an immune stimulant, and drinking Echinacea tea can help prevent you from getting sick if taken on a daily basis.
Chamomile Tea is great for fighting infections related to colds. The Chamomile flower is best known for it’s relaxing properties, and can be found in a variety of teas for both calming nerves and immune health.
Herb’s for Immunity
Boosting our immune systems should be something we do throughout the year, but especially when we know there’s higher chance to get sick. Especially if you work with kids, in grocery, retail, or an office building, it’s always good to keep your immune system in top condition.
Using herb’s and herbal remedies can give you a big advantage against getting sick. Here are some of the herbs I know of that have amazing properties for keeping you healthy during cold and flu season. I am going to show you guys my ALL TIME favorite herbs for cold and flu season, and will also list a few other awesome immune boosting herbs.
My two favorite herbs for Immune health
Elderberry is one of the herbs I recommend most highly when I hear others say they are feeling sick. Elderberry is the fruit from the Sambucus plant. It has high amounts of Vitamins a, b and c, potassium, iron, copper and phosphorus. During cold season, even if I’m not sick, I will take what I call “Elderberry shots”, and drink a bunch of tea with Elderberry juice in it. This usually keeps me feeling healthy and keeps colds at bay.
Black Elderberry Syrup by Gaia herbs, is a great brand to buy. During cold and flu season I always have a bottle of this in our medicine cabinet. You have to take it consistently, but it is one of my go to products when it comes to staying healthy. Click here to go to my Amazon link.
Oil of Oregano
Oregano is the second thing that I usually recommend for illness. Oil of Oregano is a super powerful herb that helps your body keep a healthy microbial environment, and boosts immune system by aiding in digestive flora, stopping some bacteria growth, and protecting against toxins.
Oil of Oregano by Gaia herbs, is probably my favorite brand for Oregano. Gaia herbs is based out of North Carolina, and is a reliable source for Organic, well produced herbal remedies. Click the link here to go to my Amazon link for Oil of Oregano by Gaia herbs.
These next few herbs I am not going to go super in depth with, but they are all herbs that I have taken to keep healthy and well. Most of them are either adaptogenic (help balance and restore the body), natural antioxidants, or contain high amounts of important vitamins for boosting overall immunity. Ginger, Echinacea, Turmeric, Astragalus, and Garlic are some of the other herbs that are good for boosting immune health.
Other Immune boosting herbs
Ginger is good for everything from nausea to digestive health. It is commonly used in cold season teas as well. Echinacea is another herb that is commonly used in tea, and is can help shorter the duration of cold and flu like symptoms. Turmeric does so many things for us, including detoxing the liver, is anti-fungal, and contains antioxidants. Astragalus is an adaptogenic herb that can help fight respiratory infections. Garlic can reduce your chance of becoming sick. It has anti fungal and antiviral properties, and helps increase natural killer cells to protect from invaders.
Hope these herbal solutions are helpful to you in staying healthy this season! As always, have an awesome, healthy day.
