Happy fall everyone!
I am so happy that the seasons are finally changing and we are getting some chilly weather. With the changing of the leaves comes a new change for our business, we are adding a new category! This is our first time doing this, but we are going to be making “Herb of the Month” a new category at a Natural Endeavor!
October = Pumpkins. So how fitting is it that this month’s herb is Pumpkin Seed? This “herb”, or seed is a master at healing. You may have heard that pumpkin seed is good for men’s health(keeping a healthy prostate), but Pumpkin seed does a lot more than that.
The many benefits of Pumpkin Seed
Pumpkin Seeds are high in Antioxidants
Eating this seed may help keep you healthy and fight disease. Eating pumpkin seed or taking pumpkin seed oil has shown to provide increased cell protection against free-radicals, protecting the body from harmful invaders. Because pumpkin seed is so high in antioxidants, it can also help with reducing inflammation.
Pumpkin Seed may provide relief for those struggling with Anxiety or Depression
There are a lot of ways to help cope and recover from depression and anxiety naturally. Pumpkin Seed’s are high in L-Tryptophan, an amino acid that helps promote a healthy and balanced mind and mood. Serotonin is our bodies happy chemical, and a lack of Serotonin can be associated with feeling depressed or melancholy. This natural chemical is something our bodies make, but sometimes don’t get enough of. It helps regulate a sense of happiness and well-being. Eating pumpkin seeds can help to release Serotonin in the body, because the seeds contain fats that can be converted into 5-htp(5-hydroxytryptophan), a derivative of the amino acid tryptophan. This can then be broken down and metabolized into Serotonin. Bottom line, eating Pumpkin Seeds can lead to healthy Serotonin levels.
Pumpkin Seed oil for Better skin
Oils are actually one of the best things we can use for skin care, especially if you have oily skin! Here me out on this, because I have had problematic skin in the past. Drying out your skin with astringents is not the best way to go. Your skin produces more oil when it gets fried out. So if you add a little natural oil to your skin, it helps to regulate the oil instead of tell it to produce more. Pumpkin Seed oil contains zinc, vitamin c and vitamin e, all things our skin needs. The benefits of using Pumpkin seed oil on your skin include: increased firmness and elasticity, soothing and moisturizing factors, and because of the high amounts of zinc and selenium, it is great for treating oily skin.
Pumpkin Seed for men’s health
I have many a times bought herbal supplements for myself and my husband, so I pay attention to what herbs are going into the blends before I buy them. That also means I need to know what herbal blends are best for my health as well as my husbands health. Both eating raw pumpkin seed or taking pumpkin seed oil have been used as a remedies to treat
benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate.
Pumpkin seed contains high amounts of zinc, which is one of the main factors in a healthy male system. The prostate needs zinc and contains more the 10-15 times the amount of zinc in other bodily tissues. A good amount of zinc in a man’s diet can help reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer, because zinc can help prostate cells to resist cell transformation, and create a toxic environment for cancer cells. I have seen pumpkin seed listed as one of the ingredients for men’s supplements for a long time, and it may be a very important key to prostate health, as well as overall health.
Today, have room for improvement, have an open mind, and have health contentiousness on your heart. Have and awesome, healthy day!
