Looking for something to help boost your mood this winter?

I know how taxing the fall and winter seasons can be on mental health.

Sometimes, it really does feel like the happiest time of the year, while other days it can feel like a struggle just to get out of bed.

Something that can really help to boost our mental health during these cold and dreary winter months is taking supplements.

In this post, I am going to go over two supplements that you may not have thought of that are great for boosting mood and mental health.

2 Supplements to Boost Mood and Mental Health

(This page contains affiliate links and health information. If you want to read more about that check out our disclaimer page)

Taking these two supplements could help you to feel happier this winter and Holiday season. As well as potentially boost your energy and help you to stay motivated and positive!

Recently, I discovered two supplements through a company called Whole Health, and I think they may just help with some of the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder in some individuals.

I know I am definitely going to keep taking these through the holiday season.

Let’s take a look at these two supplements:

Green Tea Extract

Green tea is one of the oldest remedies for prolonged youth, mental health, and vitality.

It is a healthy way to boost energy and positivity, and also has amazing health benefits for your metabolism and blood pressure as well.

Green Tea Extract not only boosts brain function and mood stability but also heightens your immunity and supports your metabolism.

It also supports healthy blood pressure and cholesterol.

Whole Health Green Tea Extract

This Green Tea supplement featured below is by Whole Health.

Their Green Tea Extract has 1,000mgs per serving and is a great (and easy) way to support your body with Green Tea. It is a very high-quality Green Tea Extract that I have been using myself, for about a month now.

I have found that consistently taking it every morning has really helped my energy levels during the day.

Since it’s getting to be cold and flu season again, I am also taking this supplement to help boost immunity and keep me feeling healthy through the winter.

5-HTP

This is a supplement you may not have heard of before but is amazing when it comes to supporting mood and mental health.

5-HTP, or 5- Hydroxytryptophan, is the precursor to serotonin and is a naturally occurring amino acid that can be found in Griffonia Seed Extract.

This amino acid helps with a lot of different issues when it comes to mental health.

Some of the benefits of taking 5-HTP daily include:

  • Better quality of sleep + deeper sleep
  • Reduced Anxiety
  • Boosting Serotonin

Serotonin is the brain’s natural “happy chemical”. It is a hormone that produces the feeling of happiness, well-being and also helps to stabilize our mood.

Our brains need serotonin and get it most often from exposure to sunlight, but especially during the fall and winter season, we may need to look for support from a supplement.

Whole Health 5-HTP

The Whole Health company also has a great 5-HTP supplement!

I’ve been taking this supplement for a while now, and can definitely tell the difference when I am taking it consistently.

I am really looking forward to taking it during the winter and holiday season because I am prone to getting sad or mopey when it’s consistently dark out.

Supplements vs. Pharmaceuticals

Herbal Supplements are healthier than Pharmaceuticals.

This is the time of year when a lot of people turn to the idea of medications for depression and anxiety.

Natural Supplements for Mental Health

I am a believer that everything we need to consistently take care of our bodies can be found in nature.

If our bodies are lacking a nutrient, they let us know through things like pain, acne, depressive mood, and other side effects.

This is our bodies signal that we are lacking something, and may need to support our body with whatever nutrient that is.

Oftentimes, when we start taking a herbal or vitamin supplement for 1-2 months, the negative symptoms will start to clear up.

In my opinion, Pharmaceutical drugs are short-term solutions to reduce the symptoms we are feeling rather than supporting the body and taking care of the actual problem.

And while I think Western Medicine is absolutely necessary, especially for emergency situations, I personally don’t believe in taking it on a daily basis.

Taking a supplement is a much gentler, healthier approach to taking care of ourselves, and I believe it is much better for us in the long run.

How to use Self Care during Winter

Self-care is a very important way to support our mental health all year long, but especially in the wintertime.

Embracing self-care during the winter season and can help you feel taken care of, even just by yourself.

I have a full post titled, 5 Self Care tips for Seasonal Depression that can help you find some new ways to take care of your mental health this time of year.

These tips are really very helpful during winter and the holidays!
