If you have the one that came with your Instant Pot, make sure it isn’t yellowing. I personally use these that I got from Amazon. Each one has a different meaning to me… One of them I use for canning in the instantpot, another I use for making cakes in the instant pot, and the other one is for savory dishes. Most Instant Pot models require a minimum amount of liquid to generate steam. This liquid can be water, broth, juice, or any other liquid of your choice. Typically, about 1 cup of liquid is sufficient for steaming. Please make sure that you don’t fill it up to the brim. Follow directions from recipes carefully and get used to using the Instant Pot. Because the instant pot seals, you actually don’t need that much liquid to steam in the Instant Pot.

The Instant Pot usually comes with a steaming rack, which is a metal trivet that keeps your food elevated above the liquid. This prevents your food from getting soggy and allows steam to circulate freely. You can also use a silicone steamer in accessory for the instant pot like this one. There are no shortage of accessories for the Instant Pot. But, we only recommend buying the things that you will actually use often. It is very easy to fall into the hype of buying every accessory for the instant pot, but you should only buy what you will actually use.

Clean, peel, and chop your ingredients as necessary. For vegetables, uniform cuts ensure even cooking. Place the prepared ingredients on the steaming rack. There are so many things that you can steam in the instant pot, use your imagination! Some of my personal favorites are broccoli, zucchini, other root vegetables. Steaming is much healthier than frying for even baking things because you are only using water. Most veggies will retain the largest quantity of their nutritional value buy steaming them, too.

Close the Instant Pot lid, ensuring the steam release valve is set to the sealing position. Select the “Steam” function on your Instant Pot’s control panel and adjust the cooking time using the “+” and “-” buttons. The Instant Pot will take some time to build pressure before the actual steaming begins. Please be patient… It can take some time to come to pressure.

Once the cooking time is up, you have two options for releasing pressure: natural release and quick release. Natural release involves letting the Instant Pot depressurize on its own, which is ideal for delicate foods like fish and rice. Quick release involves carefully turning the steam release valve to release pressure manually. Since I am vegetarian I often do the quick release since veggies do you well this way

Carefully remove the steaming rack, using oven mitts or tongs, and transfer your perfectly steamed food to serving dishes. Season with your favorite herbs, spices, or sauces and savor the vibrant colors and flavors. Please be careful when opening your instant pot, it is normal for a large amount of steam to come out. Especially keep your pets and little ones away.
