Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 large egg

For the Filling:

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  • In a small saucepan, heat the milk until it’s warm (about 110°F). Remove from heat and add the butter, stirring until melted.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Add the warm milk mixture, pumpkin puree, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  • Knead the Dough: Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough is soft and slightly sticky. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves until well mixed.

Step 3: Assemble the Rolls

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 16×12 inches.
  • Evenly spread the filling mixture over the rolled-out dough.
  • Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cover the baking dish with a cloth and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, until they have doubled in size.

Step 4: Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 5: Make the Frosting

  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy and well combined.

Step 6: Frost and Serve

  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes before spreading the cream cheese frosting over the top.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the delightful combination of pumpkin, cinnamon, and creamy frosting.
