Did you know that most deodorant’s have chemicals in them that are toxic to your body?

Your arm pits have a collection of lymph nodes, glands and blood vessels in them that are not only sensitive, but easily absorb what we put on them.

For most of my life, I have used regular Dove deodorant, and loved it. But what I didn’t pay attention to when I was using it was that the 1st ingredient listed is Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex GLY.

WHY is there aluminum is something we are putting on our skin??

I stopped using that deodorant about 6 months ago, and switched to a much healthier, non-toxic brand.

How to tell if your deodorant is toxic

Aluminum Compounds

There are different types of aluminum compounds (Aluminum chloralhydrate, aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly) that are used in most deodorants.

Aluminum has a hard time leaving the body, and can accumulate in breast tissue. This can eventually lead alterations in DNA and breast cancer.

Parabens

Parabens are preservatives found in pretty much all cosmetics and body care products, and that is not good.

These Parabens can be found under a lot of different names including, propyl, methyl, butyl, ethyl, and benzyl.

These ingredients have been linked to Cancer formation in breast tissue, and scarily enough, Parabens have been found in lots of different samples of cancerous tissue in humans.

Silica

You know those little bead packets that come in most things that say Silica Gel DO NOT EAT on them? That stuff is being put in your deodorant.

There is a basic rule that I follow that if I can ingest it, my skin doesn’t need it.

Silica had been known to be toxic, and there is a safety page about the dangers of breathing it in and working around it.

If it can cause lung cancer when breathed in, why are we putting it on our arm pits?

So what can I use that’s safe?

There are plenty of safe options when it comes to deodorant, skin care and even cosmetics.

Be sure to look for items that say “Paraben Free” on the front, read the ingredient list, and if you want to really play it safe, shop for your body care items at a health food store.

I usually get the deodorant and soaps that we use at Sprouts or Terra (a health food market near us).

We have also put together a list of deodorant that is safe and non-toxic, in brands for both men and women.
