Weight gain and Hormone Balance
Is your hormone imbalance causing you to gain weight?
Stepping onto the scale and seeing that little needle spin further than it did yesterday… I know the feeling.
When I was a teenager/young adult, my hormones were very imbalanced.
It caused a lot of problems, including being unable to lose weight.
I was active at Tae Kwon Do multiple times a week, and didn’t have a sedentary lifestyle by any means.

But the weight wouldn’t seem to budge.
So, how can you tell if your Hormone Imbalance is causing you to gain weight?
Symptoms of Hormonal weight gain
Hormones aren’t the only thing that causes weight gain, or makes it hard for women to lose weight.
But if you do have a hormone imbalance, this is probably something you struggle with.
Some ways to tell (aside from getting a blood test done specifically for your hormones) are these other hormone imbalance symptoms:
- Unmanageable Stress
- Acne
- High strung/Emotional
- Pelvic Discomfort
- Irritability
- Hair loss
- Depression
Which Hormones cause weight gain?
Estrogen and Progesterone are the two female sex hormones that can cause weight gain when imbalanced.
Also, Cortisol.
Cortisol is the hormone that produces our fight or flight reaction, and is our bodies response to stress.
When our bodies have too much cortisol, it makes us irritable, hold on to weight, and have lot’s of “PMS” like symptoms.
Quick tip: If you think you have too much stress in your life, try adaptogens! Ashwagandha is one of my favorite adaptogens, and it helps greatly with stress.
Reducing your stress levels will help you start losing weight, and help you feel better.
Can you lose weight with a Hormone Imbalance?
Losing weight while doing nothing about your hormone imbalance will be tricky.
Just like when we get acne, weight gain/loss or stagnation can be our bodies are telling us something is wrong.
If you have had trouble losing weight even while eating healthy and exercising, you may need to look into balancing your hormones long term.
How to Balance your Hormones and lose weight
There is no quick fix to hormone balance, but there are things you can start doing today to help!
My suggestion is that you start with a supplement and a routine.
My new favorite hormone balance supplement
I searched through LifeSeasons women’s health supplement section, and found they have quite a few really good supplements for women!
Including one called PreMense-T, a hormone balancer specifically designed to get rid of PMS and imbalance symptoms.
I wasn’t sure if it would work as well as the adaptogen hormone balancer I had taken for years, but it was worth a shot.
The first period I had while taking it, I still had PMS symptoms, only because it wasn’t fully in my system yet.
But by the time my next period came around it had started working its magic.
I knew it was working because I can typically tell when my period is coming without looking at a calendar. My emotions will start wreaking havoc, and I’ll start getting cramps.
This time around, I completely forgot I was supposed to have a period soon because I had NO PMS signs whatsoever. My husband even noticed that I seemed happier and more emotionally sound.
I now take it daily! It has practically erased PMS symptoms from my monthly cycle.
