How to use Hygge this fall

Hygge is all things comfort, warm and cozy, and I think all of us could use a little more of that this year. This short guide will show you how to implement Hygge to stay cozy during fall.

There is something SO comforting about autumn… from the foods, smells, to the fun activities, it is one of my favorite seasons.

Use more seasonal spices

Spice up your desserts and breads with some seasonal spices!

Tastes are one of the easiest ways to use Hygge, especially in the fall and winter seasons.

You can add these spices to banana or pumpkin bread, warm drinks, cookies or even soups.

  • Cinnamon
  • Clove
  • Nutmeg
  • Ginger

Embrace Pumpkin everything

No shame about this, I love “Pumpkin everything” season!

Pumpkin scent and flavor are two of my favorite things about fall. Even just the color orange, both in the trees and decor around my home make it feel like autumn.

Aroma is key

Clove, Cinnamon and Orange are perfect for a warm holiday scent.

One of the easiest ways to embrace the aroma of fall is with an essential oil diffuser.

You can diffuse the scents listed above in oil for, and they actually smell great if you mix them!

Start wearing warmer colors

When I pull out my burgundy scarf and pumpkin orange jacket, I know its fall.

These colors remind me of fall leaves, and seasonal foods/vegetables, and help me to really get into the season.

Our brains relate color to mood:

  • Red – Energy, Passion, Strength, Dedication
  • Orange – Warmth, Joy, Friendship, Belonging
  • Yellow – Optimism, Success, Clarity, Enthusiasm
  • Green – Growth, Change, Health, Spirituality
  • Blue – Trust, Balance, Compassion, Serenity
  • Purple – Wisdom, Luxury, Dignity, Imagination
  • Brown – Safety, Reliability, Dependability, Resilience

Dressing in lots of Orange’s and Browns will help get your mind in a place of warmth, belonging and safety. This is a great way to use Hygge to stay cozy during fall!

Sip Warm drinks

There is nothing like sipping a warm cup of cider or coffee when there is a slight chill in the air.

My favorite cold weather activity is going to a bookstore or coffee shop with my husband or a good friend, and sipping on coffee.

It’s also nice to sit by a window and watch the leaves fall with a warm drink in hand.

Baking was always a fun thing my family did together growing up.
