The Perfect Protein for Female Fitness and Muscle Preservation
Finding a good protein for female fitness goals specifically can be very hard.
I am always looking for ways to get more protein in my diet,
and as someone who rarely craves meat, and is lactose intolerant, it can be HARD getting enough protein every day!
Recently I was given the opportunity to try out Naked Nutrition’s Blueberry Lemon protein powder, and I am a big fan.
So today, I will be giving you my review of Naked Shake, as well as explaining why it’s so important that we as women be intaking enough protein, and how that affects our hormones.

My honest review of the Blueberry Lemon Naked Shake
I have tried out a LOT of protein powders in the last 10 years.
My first job was working in the health food dept. in my local grocery store, and that’s when it sparked in me that I wanted to do something with nutrition.
So when I review products here on my website, I have vetted the ingredients, tried the product myself, and compared it to other products I have tried that are similar.
Today, we are talking about Naked Nutrition’s Blueberry Lemon Naked Shake.
I really liked this protein!
It tastes very light. I don’t feel my stomach sloshing after finishing it, which is always a plus.
One of my favorite things about the taste is that doesn’t taste chalky like some other protein powders I’ve tried.
The flavor is pleasantly sweet, not overwhelmingly so,
and you can really taste the mild tangy sweetness of the blueberry and a slight tartness from the lemon!
I am a big fan of blueberry muffins and lemon poppyseed protein cookies, and I feel this shake has a good mix of both flavors.
I also really appreciate that this particular flavor is dairy free and vegan.
Amazing ingredients you can count on
The one thing I immediately LOVED about Naked Shake is the ingredient list.
When Naked Nutrition reached out to me, before I even said I would try out the product, I looked at the ingredients. And I was impressed.
I love how few ingredients are on the label, and that I can actually pronounce all of them.
Another selling point is that it contains both Essential Amino Acids and Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs), which are vital for workout recovery.
I work out frequently and take BCAA’s afterward, there is such a big difference in how I recover.
This shake also has 20g of protein and only 5g of sugar!
Pea Protein
As someone who is lactose intolerant, this ingredient was a big selling point for me.
Pea protein has been shown to help the body build muscle when paired with a good resistance training routine and works very similarly to whey protein.
It can also help with muscle preservation because of the essential amino acids it contains.
Coconut Sugar
I really like that this protein powder is sweetened with coconut sugar.
Coconut sugar has about half as many calories as granulated sugar and contains prebiotics that supports gut health.
MCT Powder
MCT powder, (Medium Chain Triglycerides) is amazing, especially for weight loss!
MCTs are made from coconut oils and palm kernel oils and are easily absorbed by the body, and broken down into ketones which can then be used for energy.
A real fruit blend of Blueberry Juice and Lemon Juice
Never trust when a label has a blanket statement like “natural flavors”. This is one thing I try to avoid.
When I saw that the label for this Blueberry Lemon protein powder has a real fruit blend of actual juices, I was sold.
Why women specifically need to be consuming more protein
I think everyone could benefit from adding more protein into their diet, but women specifically NEED to be eating more.
If you’ve been around here long you know how passionate I am about women’s health, specifically hormone health.
This is because it’s always been something that I’ve struggled with myself.
I recently learned that for women, one of the BIG reasons we can’t lose weight can come from something called Adrenal Fatigue.
This is when the adrenal glands are working overtime because of long-term stress, and are always shooting cortisol into our system.
When we are stressed out frequently, and then also trying to lose weight by pushing ourselves harder in the gym, our bodies and minds get so tired.
And our adrenals think we need that fight or flight response constantly.
Our bodies go into preservation mode.
This kind of thing can trigger our bodies to break down muscle tissue for energy instead of fat stores,
mainly because they think we’re in danger and don’t know when we will be eating again.
This doesn’t feel fair and can be very discouraging.
Adrenal Fatigue can cause a lot of symptoms like insulin resistance, weight loss resistance, hair loss, lack of motivation, and lowered energy levels.
While men and women can both suffer from adrenal fatigue, with women, weight loss becomes nearly impossible.
How this shake can help support weight loss for women
Especially for women, protein is key for weight loss.
More importantly, sustainable weight loss.
The best thing I think a woman can do to lose weight effectively and sustainably is to up her protein.
Having enough protein in your system can really help your body decrease the negative effects of stress we can feel.
Stress is the big player when it comes to female weight gain and weight loss resistance!
If we can help our bodies react better to stress then we can begin to slowly and efficiently lose weight and make sure it stays off.
Adding in a lean protein source can help our bodies to fight off insulin resistance, and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
Protein also makes you feel more full and satiated and helps to reduce sugar cravings and overeating.
Final Thoughts
As far as protein powders go, I do really enjoy the Blueberry Lemon flavor of Naked Shake.

How Protein Impacts Hormones
Since I am not a licensed Health Care Practitioner, for this article I wanted to point you to one that I love learning from!
Dr. Beth Westie has a YouTube channel all about women’s hormone health, and she talks a lot about protein, adrenal fatigue, and regulating female hormone.
I have linked the video below because it is very relevant to the topic we covered today!
Definitely give it a watch, and you can always help her out by subscribing and liking her videos if you find them helpful.
